How Can I Use Dabbleboard In The Classroom?

Dabbleboard can be used to upload a photo and then add drawings and text to the photo.  This feature can be used in many subject areas, particularly Science.  A photo can be uploaded and the various parts can be labeled.

In an Art class a piece of artwork can be uploaded and students can brainstorm a list of ideas about the piece of work.  Primary aged students use picture prompts as a pre-write.  A picture can be uploaded and students can add ideas, adjectives, verbs or any skill being reinforced.  These projects can be left up or printed for students use. The ability to upload pictures appeals to the visual learner.

Students can make comic strips and drawings to demonstrate their learning.  The comic strip can be used in a wide range of content areas.  It covers many different concepts such as main idea and summarizing.  Making a drawing or a comic to demonstrate ones learning is useful for those students who have difficulty writing or expressing themselves verbally.    The shape recognition feature of the program is useful for younger students or those with fine motor difficulties.

Dabbleboard works well for making various types of graphic organizers.  The entire class can view and edit the organizers.  The organizers can be saved for later viewing.  The types of organizers that can be constructed using Dabbleboard range from webs to flow charts.  These types of organizational tools help visual learners remember and make sense of concepts.

The collaboration aspect of Dabbleboard is a great aspect for interpersonal learners.  Study groups can be established and each member of the group can add and edit the study guide.   In a Math class a problem can be posted and all students can view as the instructor or another student demonstrates how to solve the problem.  The problem can then be copied, saved, resized and combined with other problems to make a study guide.

When Dabbleboard is used in conjunction with an interactive whiteboard it is beneficial for a kinesthetic learner.  The students can come to the board and move the shapes, arrows, and text.  Even when Dabbleboard is not used with an interactive whiteboard the act of manipulating the pictures reinforces the concepts for kinesthetic learners.
